I was a first time flyer of Air Pacific so I went in with no expectations. The price was about $100 per person cheaper than other airlines from Auckland to Fiji booking through a travel agent. They emailed the e-tickets and we were ready to go.

We got to the airport with a bag each and one set of Golf clubs then went to the check in counter, at this stage we were told that there was a $22 charge for golf clubs. I have flown all over the place and this is the first airline I have found with this charge. On the e-ticket it said there was a charge for bulky items and to phone the Air Pacific office for more details. I did not even think about the golf clubs because I have never struck this before. Our total weight for 2 people including the Golf clubs was 42.5kgs so only 2.5 over which we were not charged for (Air Pacific Baggage). After talking to the airport representative they agreed to waive the golf club fee.

Boarding was normal and this is where you will have your first Fijian greeting, "Bula" from the cabin crew. You will be using Bula alot once in Fiji.

After the JetStar seating it was good to get a bit of extra space to stretch out. The cabin staff were friendly and helpful so we sat back and waited for takeoff. After takeoff the little screens flipped down from the ceiling and the movie started (no personalised TVs like most other airlines).

Free food and drinks were now being brought around, 2 choices of meals, both where better than average but not the best airline food I have had. The flight was good and after the movie, a TV comedy we landed in Nadi. Nadi immigration was like what you will face on the island, pretty relaxed.

Air Pacific is a no frills airline that I would fly again if there was a few hundred dollars difference between them and the next. I think all you are missing out on is a bit better meal and a personalised TV screen. I would also make sure that Golf clubs are included in the fare.
