Best Pies in New Zealand

The meat pie (meat and pastry) has always been a good part of a Kiwi's diet from the early days of the school Tuck Shop/Canteen pie to a pie for lunch at your first job all the way to the family pie, New Zealander's have always loved a great pie . Some of the best places to find a great pie are in the isolated country shops and pubs/taverns.

If you are in the South Island around Christchurch stop in at the pie shop Dunsandel for their venison pie. The Hororata Tavern on the way to or from Mt Hutt Ski field or Terrace Downs golf course would be another place to find a good New Zealand pie.

Why not try Jacksons Historic Tavern's gourmet lamb and mint or venison and red wine pies on the way across to the West Coast from Christchurch. When you get to Westport the locals get great pies from Freckles Café.
