Going to a Barbeque or Party

Barbeques and parties happen often around NZ over summer, and you will get invited if you have contact with Kiwis. If you are send an invitation please RSVP ("Répondez s'il vous plaît " or "Reservez s'il-vous-plait", a French phrase that translates to "Please respond" or "Please book your place". "Response Shall Verify Presence", an English substitute for the meaning of "R.S.V.P.")

If you have been invited to a barbeque (BBQ) or party you usually bring along some drinks or a plate of food, ask your host if you need to bring anything.

People usually take a bottle of wine or something to cook on the BBQ.

Sometimes a game of 'backyard cricket' can start with the 'blokes'(men), while the girls chat.

One fun variation on the normal party is the 'pot luck dinner'. This is where everyone brings a pot or plate of food and all share.
