Births

In New Zealand if a friend or close acquaintance has a baby it is usual to send a card or present to congratulate them. Depending how close they are to you would determine the size and amount of the presents. Most people give books, clothing or toys.

Friends would visit the mother and baby in the maternity ward at the hospital.

The mother would also hold a baby shower before the birth and invite friends. You would take a small gift to this.

Great tips - the baby showers are great for the women - we've started a 'blokes' version of the baby shower where we take the Dad-to-be out for some sports and beer haha. I know New Zealand has quite a few baby clubs which offer great advice on brith/pregnancy too.
