New Zealand School of Dance

The New Zealand School of Dance is one of the Southern Hemisphere's leading dance conservatoires.

The aim of the School is to provide comprehensive training to the highest standard for young dancers from around the globe seeking careers within the profession.

As the national school for dance, emphasis is placed on producing dancers of excellence who are well trained, thinking individuals. Following an annual audition tour, successful entrants normally embark on a two to three year course of full-time study that incorporates nutrition, yoga, pilates, anatomy and dance history as well as classes in classical and contemporary dance.

Since its creation in 1967, graduates of the School have secured contracts in major companies throughout the world, and the school works to maintain a particularly strong association with the Royal New Zealand Ballet.

Every year the New Zealand School of Dance students present a choreographic season and an end of year graduation season, which the public are encouraged to attend. Opportunities to view practical dance classes and/or performances are available by prior appointment.

The New Zealand School of Dance shares the Te Whaea National Dance & Drama Centre with Toi Whakaari: NZ Drama School.
