History of Logan Park (Pelichet Bay)
Logan Park as it is today was known as Pelichet Bay.
In the 1870's an embankment 548 metres long was built across Pelichet Bay as a continuation of Union Street. This was the first step in the construction of the habour-side road to Port Chalmers. With this, Lake Logan was established.
Lake Logan was totally reclaimed in the early 1900,s for the South Seas Exhibition in 1925/26 and the area then later became known as Logan Park.
Following the Exhibition the University Oval ground and grandstand were developed for a cost of 10,000 pounds and opened in 1930.
For more information on the Logan Park and the history of the area please contact Otago Cricket and inquire about the book, "The History of Logan Park" edited by John Heslop.
