Free New Zealand maps and travel guides
New Zealand has an abundance of good quality free road maps and travel guides.
If you arrive in Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch or Queenstown you will find great YHA maps and other information before getting to immigration. Then after exiting customs there are visitor information centres with free Automobile Association (AA) maps and regional booklets, along with all sorts of useful descriptive information to keep you reading throughout your trip.
You will also find that all tourist points of interest and rest areas will be well sign posted, and there are "i" (information) centres all over New Zealand so you will have no problems finding anything with free advice and information. Jasons is another large company which provides great, free accommodation guides.
If you want to buy maps the best places are petrol stations and bookshops. The ones you buy will usually have more detailed city street maps.
If you wish to have some information sent to you ahead of time, go to www.bbh.co.nz and even without joining, you can order their guide which will be posted to you.
