Summer: |
|
The
most popular New Zealand destinations during the school
holiday period (early December to late January) tend to
be lakes and beaches. In New Zealands South Island the
Marlborough Sounds, Nelson, central South Island lakes,
Akaroa and Hanmer Springs swell with visitors. In New
Zealand's North Island, vacationers head for the beachside
locations of Mount Maunganui, Tauranga, Coromandel and
the Bay of Islands. |
Around
this time be prepared for heavy traffic particularly
on the main State Highways and take care whilst driving. |
In
New Zealand it is advisable to book accommodation well
in advance especially backpacker hostels, motor inns,
campgrounds and tent sites. |
Holiday-goers
with children may find the NZ Christmas period an ideal
time to travel. Those who are looking for peace and tranquillity,
on the other hand, may wish to visit these regions during
February with most New Zealanders back at school and work
things generally get a lot quieter and February is usaully
the warmest month. |
Autumn: |
|
New
Zealand autumns are mild, with daytime temperatures ranging
between 10 and 20 degrees Celsius. During this season
most tourist destinations are relatively un-crowded
but care should be taken around the Easter break when
roads become busy with New Zealanders heading for their
favourite holiday spots. |
In
New Zealand during April, primary and secondary school
holidays occur. During this month shopping malls, family
attractions and movie complexes are often busy so be
prepared for crowds at these locations. |
Winter: |
|
Winter
in New Zealand means an influx of visitors to alpine resort
towns such as Queenstown, Wanaka, Hanmer Springs and Whakapapa
for their New Zealand skiing adventure. If you are planning
on staying at one of these destinations it is advisable
to book accommodation well in advance particularly during
Queenstown's Winter Festival' (late June or early July). |
Spring: |
|
Spring
in New Zealand is generally warm, and a great time to
enjoy the outdoors with some great weather with cheaper
pricing just before the high season starts. School holidays
occur in late September, so be prepared for crowds if
visiting family attractions at this time. |
