Tukino
The 4WD access road turns off the desert road at a signpost about 20km north of Waiouru. It is nine kilometres to the car park and from there 4WD require chains, or it is possible to get picked up at this point.
Description:
Nestled onto the Desert Road side of Mt Ruapehu, Tukino
Ski field offers the unique combination of adventure and
lack of crowds, just the way that skiing used to be. Coupled
with the friendliness and camaraderie only ever found on
club-operated fields.
The Tukino slopes are sheltered from the prevailing winds
and the field is often operating in clear weather when the
rest of the mountain is in cloud.
Tukino is snowboard friendly, and is open to alpine climbers
as well as skiers. We offer school and group packages and
bulk bookings.
