Rangitikei
The Manawatu area has endless opportunities to experience the great outdoors, from short walks in native bush, half-day walks through the breathtaking Manawatu Gorge, to tramping in the Ruahine or Tararua Ranges. Museums, gardens and arts and crafts are everywhere, with many cottage industries to be discovered in the Pohangina Valley. The area provides all types of accommodation from top class hotels, motels, hostels, bed and breakfasts to home and farmstays. An excellent mix of restaurants and bars to suit all palates are a popular feature of the area.
Great small art and craft trails take you from one end of the district to the other, taking in outlets selling a range of items from antiques and collectables through to locally made natural wool products and Maori handicrafts.
The Manawatu has a number of historic homes. Some can be viewed as you visit the gardens that surround them, or you have the option of joining a guided tour to learn more about the architectural heritage.
