New Zealand Cup Week
2005 New Zealand Derby, held during Cup Week
NZ Cup and Show Week is a unique
time in Christchurch when racing,
fashion, food and local lifestyles
converge to create a festival atmosphere
that is high action, high energy
and high stakes.
At the very heart of the festival
is New Zealand Cup week, which
includes the New Zealand Galloping,
Trotting and Greyhound Cups, Ladies
Day, Guineas Day and Show Day race
meetings where Addington and Riccarton
Racecourses celebrate the finest
New Zealand has to offer both on
and off the track.
No international racing event is
complete without a focus on fashion.
During NZ Cup and Show Week you
can join New Zealand's top
designers and the 'next big
things' at the American Express
Canterbury Fashion Collections
and Awards 2004. This year's
festival also includes an opportunity
to join a luxury coach tour of
the winning designer outlets.
The nationally renowned Canterbury
A&P Show brings country to
town to stage a magnificent event
showcasing 300 trade displays,
carnival rides, wine competitions,
food and cooking demonstrations.
These key events are supported
by a host of community activities
including: fireworks displays,
art and fashion exhibitions, concerts,
vineyard and garden tours, creative
workshops, circus, carnivals, theatre,
and sporting events, which collectively
enhance the festival.
For those who don't want
their days cut short, head to 'The
Strip' on Oxford Terrace,
for the city's best music
and dance entertainment and delightful
local cuisine.
If your idea of adventure holiday
includes friends, fashion, food,
wine, racing and a taste of country
living, the only question left
iscan you keep up with
the pace?
History of NZ Cup and Show Week
In 1996 The Christchurch City
Council created the NZ Cup and
Show Week umbrella brand to coordinate
the growing number of national
interest races and local icon events
happening in Christchurch collectively.
The development of these events
into the NZ Cup and Show Week Festival,
created the potential for the festival
to become a national icon that
would bring significant economic
benefits to Christchurch and reinforce
local pride in the community.
Over subsequent years the festival
has grown significantly and is
now established as the highlight
of the New Zealand racing calendar
and a social occasion that attracts
over 100,000 people, including
16,000 visitors to the city. This
year the NZ Cup and show Week promises
to be the biggest and best yet,
with even more national interest
events scheduled around The Canterbury
A&P Show and New Zealand Cup
week.

High Action, High Energy,
High Stakes...
A 'must do' on New
Zealand's social calendar - head
to the heart of the Mainland to
celebrate the 2005 New Zealand
Cup and Show Week. It's a unique
time in Christchurch when racing,
fashion, food and local lifestyles
converge to create a festival atmosphere
that is high action, high energy
and high stakes.
The city explodes into action with
New Zealand Cup Week, which includes
the Christchurch Casino New Zealand
Galloping and Trotting Cups. Fashion
events like the Canterbury
Fashion 2005 Collections & Awards and
the 'Best
Dressed' at the races
demonstrate that haute couture
is not just French for high fashion.
The nationally renowned Canterbury
A&P Show brings country
to town and offers an experience
that makes you feel like selling
up your eighth of an acre block
and heading to where there's not
a neighbour in sight.
If your idea of an adventure holiday
includes friends, fashion, food,
wine, racing, polo and a taste
of country living, then the only
question left is... can you keep
up with the pace?
